                                    Ballymachugh 1 – 12 Killygarry 1 – 07

Ballymachugh made it two wins on the trot when they defeated Killygarry in an entertaining game last Saturday afternoon. The game started in a lively fashion as both teams made light of the unusual throw in time with Aodhan Kiernan drawing first blood with a well taken goal in the third minute. The lively Killian Smith followed this up immediately with a well taken point as it looked like the home team were going to run away with the game. An experienced Killygarry team had other ideas and they gradually clawed their way back into contention with three well taken frees from Damien Keaney. The Hughs with Padraig Sheridan revelling in his new role on the edge of the square managed to keep some daylight between the teams as the hard running Rooney and Sheridan both added to the hometeams score. With the game entering injury time Killygarry managed to level the scores when Cathal Keaney fired to the net following a mazy solo run for the score of the game.

The Hughs could have been shell shocked by this sucker punch but they started the second half like they began the first with early scores from Smith and Rooney. Keaney replied for the visitors and half way through the second half there was one point between the teams. At this stage the Hugh’s introduced Brian Donohoe into their attack and it began to pay immediate dividends as he used his immense experience and his quality of distribution to set up scores for the rampaging Sheridan and the equally impressive Smith. As the game entered the final five minutes Aodhan Kiernan sailed a fifty metre sideline ball over the black spot to seal the win for the home team and Smith finished the scoring with another point to finish with a seven point haul.

The Hughs will be happy with their second win on the trot and whilst there was some distance between the teams at the end Killygarry were more than a match for them for three quarters of the game. The McIlarney brothers were outstanding in defence and up front the return to form of Rooney and Smith coupled with the resurgent Sheridan was the difference between the teams.
